Evening Standards

Its been a great year, we've been so fortunate to receive such wonderful support since the launch of our monthly 'Evening Standard' party back in March. From our friends old and new and the Drake Hotel.

While we took off december, we will back at it on January 15th with a very oh so special guest we will announce after the fall out from new years promo over load dies down.

There were many tracks we loved this year, and we could try and list as many as possible, (actually we just tried to do that and decided otherwise). But we realized goods songs are nothing without having great people there to enjoy them. You'll hear our favourite stuff in an upcoming mix, and on any night we play.
SO
Many thanks to everyone who came out to support us and our guests this year!
Thanks to our guests, you consistently re defined our pre-conceived notions of a good time.
We're lucky to have people around us that care as much about the music as they do about getting fucked up.
Seeing all our friends at once makes the difference.
Happy New Year
Paul and Adam.

EVENING STANDARD 08 with CFCF! (Acephale, RVNG Intl)

CFCF is coming in on the night bus. Do you like the night bus? Do you like to make dance? The sex churn of CFCF’s chopped and screwed R+B will make you glad you got your hair did and stepped out on this night. While his own productions -which feel like a fleetwood mac penned cinema score that met a two step track on a balearic cliff side during the godless time between night and day- will make dance until you can make dance no more.

His latest release on dance beard label RVNG Intl 'THE RIVER' is one of his most beautiful to date, picking up on the same cinematic feel that made his LP debut 'Continents' such a repeat lisetn, repeat listen, repeat listen, repeat listen.
(its backed by killer remixes from Jacques Renault and Coyote)

We've all known each other for quite a bit now, having often played together at a bar in montreal that was recently burned down by a juke box.

So expect a fam-jam reunion sort of night, backed up by CFCF's extensive knowledge of music, and our own blend of disco/house/ /techno and weird pop party jams.

WALKABOUT

Quite pleased here to present our second installment in the Old Gold Boutique transmission series.

While our first mix for the series, Down-Tempos Before Distempers was put together with slow paced nostalgia in mind, we decided to up the tempo a bit, pick some summer timed disco, house, and pop edits, and just make a summer mix we felt we would want to listen to more than six times.

A little tough the bridge the gap between disco and balearic psych rock, but we're happy with how it turned out

enjoy!

'Deeper'

A video we put together for the great new Nacho Lovers single 'Deeper'

go on, get the coconuts

As certain as summer is another TieDye remix to soundtrack it.

'A Mountain of One' released the wonderful single 'Bones last year that came bundled with the warehouse treatment from House of House, and Thomas Bullock's balearic psych out Way of the Ancients Mix' (4th last track in that mix)

A follow up remix 12" has just been released, and our favorite pied pipers of breezy rock disco TieDye have picked up right where they left off last summer with their remix of DJ Kaos' 'Love the Night Away'.

The female backing vocals are a particularly great look.

here it is for download at a lowered bit rate

Shit Feeling

The latest single from Marcus Lambkin , aka Shit Robot, is a brilliant followup to last years Simple Things 12" .
Dark piano Loops echoing in Ward C of Shutter Island
are paired with the vocals of Saheer Umar (of House of House infamy) and some jacking bassy synths to form one Mad House track.....zing (i'm really reaching here, like Dr. Cawley and his two day psychiatric role play....jeeezus)

While 'simple things' had Ian Svenonius ad-libbing a nursery rhyme straight out of Sarah Conner's diary, 'I Got A Feeling' has Saheer belting out a heavy lovers lament. Its starts off very restrained, but after a long build all the elements get set loose Andrew Laeddis style.

Holy Mashup Batman ! (black van?)

Since the Avalanches threw Wham! over Zdarlight, I don't think i've really gotten into any 'mashups'.

But 24hrs ago Holy Ghost took their track I Will Come Back and blended it with Yearning by new DFA label mates Black Van.

As far as mashups go, this is pretty brilliant

Saurapod at the disco lock in

New release from a ficticous man, on a label named after a ficticous dinosaur.

(thats right, a brontosaurus is actually just an apatasaurus, there was a mix up in skeletons at some point that led to the belief that there was a new species of sauropod, BUT, there aint, and any third grader can tell you that, doye. )

Keeping things in the vein of a more retro styled deep house sound is the Arto Mwambe M.O., and Love Lift is no exception. The synths tread a fine line between fromage and brilliant homage (much like that sentence) , and the vocals are completely over the top and perfect for this production.

The Osborne remix on the flip adds in a killer bassline that adds a warm strut to the original deep sound, definitely my pick of the three versions.

out now on the Brontosaurus Label

you can listen ad finum to both versions on the Myspace

Soul Clap re-heat the Baker Mans Bread

In 1989 Danish duo Laid Back , ( of cocaine equestrienne disco pop fame) penned 'Baker Man'.
With saxophones that sound like fireworks, sunset guitar plucking, and a smooth doughy bassline it's one damn fine piece of easy listening.

I could gush on,

But I think I'd never do the song justice the same way Lars Von Trier's music video did:

I won't attempt to sit here and posture to be some Danish pop archivist. (BTW: A UK 'dance' remix of 'Bakerman' hit number one on the Greenland charts in 1996, just so you know)

Because if it weren't for Boston's exceedingly brilliant Soul Clap digging this track up , cutting, filtering, pasting, and adding some club ready kick to it, my knowledge of laidback would have started and ended with 'Whitehorse'.

This 12" came out on Airdrop last week, and will most likely never leave our sets.

Soul Clap did it again.

you can listen below, on repeat

Going 30mph in a warp 7 zone

Kris Menace & KoweSix (moonbootica) have joined together as
Black Van.

Black Van has their debut track out on DFA in two weeks,
'Yearning' has an incredible cinematic feel that puts your right there on that elevated chrome highway. Steady cruising at a fictional speed amongst neon billboards warning you against trusting androids..........which you ignore as you look deep into your android GF's eyes and rip on out of town.

Its hard to listen and not think about victories at sunset, getaways into multicolored night skies, and kisses in outer space.

The Emperor Machine mix on the flip has the churning acid and synths of the action that took place before, complete with lazer effects, and 'password confirmed' noises.

'And the cat made a nest out of the wires coiled beneath the Roland''.......

Its seems to be a fine start to 2010 for anyone with a passing interest in synthesizers turned to 'strut', and vocals turned to 'stun' as Tensnake's 'Coma Cat' EP has dug up some a pristine Anthony and the Camp production and reshaped it perfectly for now, ditching the unnerving 'hot tub' vibes of the original and prepping it for 5 months from now when it's actually warm out, and people are ready to enjoy themselves again.

Tensnake-Coma Cat
limited to 15 downloads.

Along similar fe-lines (count it), Tiger & Woods have had their second release on EDITAINMENT , which has them rework an Imagination track into a smooth burning disco dub , that finally roars out with the vocals of the chorus.

Specifically it's a re working of 'Music and Lights' and has been brilliantly titled 'Gin Nation'

here it is, at 192kbps
